I'm a young musician from Aberdeen who is preparing to study Composition and Conducting at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

Despite being still quite young, I have composed various pieces, mainly for small ensembles designed to be both challanging to the player while being incorporating areas of entertainment which are identifiable to a wider audience. My recent works include "Fanfare and Jubilation", "Little Suite" both for which are for Wind Quintet, and "Contest Tryptich" for Brass Quartet. The two Wind Quintet pieces both won there categories in the Aberdeen Music Festival with an outstanding classification and "Contest Tryptich" is to be performed at the Schools Solos and Quartets finals by the Cults Academy Brass Quartet.

On the Conducting front, I currently conduct the Aberdeen City Youth Wind Quintet and the GCO Wind Quintet. In addition, I have in the past conducted the Bon-Accord Silver Brass Band, the Aberdeen University Wind Band, the Cults Academy Wind Quintet and the Grampian Concert Orchestra. Despite my interest in small ensembles, I am interested in taking some larger groups, with which I can develop my Conducting ability.

He has postulated a General Theory of Intervallic Classes, applicable to macro and micro-intervallic scales of duration and of pitch. In the field of the continuum he has developed new methods of multidimensional graphic register of the components of a continuum between rhythm and sound and a continuum between order and chaos, and sound and noise. El sonido en Rulfo (The sound in Juan Rulfo’s literature) is the research base for his opera Pedro Páramo.

In Mexico, since 1974 he became researcher in music at the Institute of Aesthetics, IIE/UNAM, where he was appointed as the Chair of several projects: Mexican Music History, Mexican Music Archives and Music: Interactive Computer System for Research and Composition for the study of the combinatory potential of scales. “The techniques and theories I have developed are based on mathematics and acoustics ; the more neutral they remain, the better they serve the description of the imaginary : it is my ear that gives birth to my music, which becomes the accurate, almost phonographic representation, of every detail coming from my inner hearing experiences.” His music is associated to compositional research on diverse fields ; i.e. : scales, Suite, piano (1960); improvisational processes: Persona, vocal trio (1969); compositional mechanos, Memorias for a Keyboard (1971); finite groups theory, Melódica, (1973), Canto mnémico (1973-83); networks theory, Canto tejido, piano (1974), Canto alterno, cello (1978), Ensemble'yuunohui, strings (1983-90); new instrumental developments, Canto oculto, violin (1977); intervallic identities, Canto naciente, brass octet (1975-78); continuum macro-timbre and space sound distribution, eolo'oolin, six percussionists (1981-90); continuum, eua'on ; rhythm-sound components polyphony, the four yuunohui (1983-90); topological continuum variations, ishini’ioni, string quartet (1984-90); continuum-discontinuum modulation, yuunohui’tlapoa, harpsichord (1994-97); Pre-Columbian ceremonial conception of music, opera Pedro Páramo : “Doloritas” (1992-).

Born in Baton Rouge, LA July 26, 1955. Largely self-taught, began writing music at age twelve. First actual works were for symphonic band and some drum cadences. Keyboard abilities by ear led to his becoming a pianist/keynoardist for two rock/jazz bands while in college (Southeastern Louisiana University/Hammond, LA). In 1982, moved to Baton Rouge abd began playing piano for local restaurant. Also composed commercial jingle for nationwide advertising, and wrote and conducted the dedication music for the installation of the WWII vessel, USS KIDD. Subsequent enrollment in LSU produced several student works, including a string quartet. Began working as fulltime composer/arranger for Christian Life Fellowship, a large charismatic church in Baton Rouge where he played timpani during services. This lasted into 1986, and resulted in the compilation of over 300 arrangements of worship choruses custom-written for church orchestra.

Experiences in Austin, TX and Anderson, SC led to travel to Yellowstone National Park in 1988, after which he domiciled in Berkeley, CA and worked on a student symphony. Having gained ethnomusicological tools to study folklore at Berkeley, he began devising methods of poetically describing Americana in musical terms, and began writing works descriptive of his own experiences and impressions made during his travels. To date, two symphonies are completed as part of a nine-symphony cycle. Numerous other works are planned, including several concertos and ensemble works. While a large orchestral pallette is his medium of choice, he is also adept at writing big band and Latin-styled dance music, primarily as a result of having been an avid percussionist.

Two non-commercial CD's have been completed, SINFONIA (classical) and LOVE BITES (dance/jazz-fusion) as of 2004, and two more are about to be released; SOUL OF THE SKY (classical) and TANGO MANGO (dance/jazz fusion). The former current CD includes seven new pieces for orchestra, the title cut of which is "Soul of the Sky," a fourteen-minute symphonic poem for choir, organ, orchestra and percussion. The title cut for the latter current CD, "Tango Mango," features 'cello and jazz band in true Argentine form. Other notable pieces include "Uncle Don (piano, tenor sax, rhythm/brass section)," "Big Al (You No Like Chinese Food (piano, jazz orhestra)," and "Cowboy Heaven (guitars, organ, rock accompaniment)."

Mr. Graham currently lives in Livingston, MT, about an hour's drive north of Yellowstone National Park. Together with his wife, Laurene, they run a small film/media production company, Eaglefeather Media Productions.
