Caroline Haffner is acclaimed by connoisseurs, critics and fellow musicians for the brilliant virtuosité, profound musicianship and dramatic intensity of her playing. She has been encouraged throughout her career by personalities such as Placido Domingo, Maxim Vengerov and Mstislav Rostropovitch, who has spoken of the imagination, colour and poetry in her performance.

The style of playing - eminently romantic and dramatic - which characterizes Caroline Haffner allows her to be mentioned alongside the legendary pianists with whom she has studied. As a child prodigy she took lessons with Alfred Cortot and was deeply influenced by the limpidité, fluidity and spontaneous expression of his style. Later she studied with Samson Francois, Pierre Sancan, and with David Oistrakh's accompanist, the Russian teacher Lev Oborine in Moscow.

Caroline Haffner is much in demand as a chamber orchestra musician, and spends a large part of her time collaborating with artists of international renown such as Maxim Vengerov, Teresa Stich-Randall, Bruno Pasquier and Alain Marion. Her recording of Mendelssohn's sonatas and variations acclaimed in reviews by 'Fanfare' and 'Intune' among many others. She has been invited as Maître de Chant by the Opéra of Paris, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the St. Gallen and Monte-Carlo Operas. She has also been the accompanist at a number of opera recitals.

In 2006 Caroline Haffner focussed on recitals of Mozart's music and presentation of his music in her festival activities and working and performing with cellists and violinists in masterclasses and performances. Celebrations of Mozart continue into 2007 with performances planned for Istanbul, London, La Baule and Gstaad and further recitals of Chopin's Ballades and Nocturnes.

Raised in Greendale, WI, my classical music training began at the age of 3. Watching my sister take harp lessons quickly increased my desire to play the harp. Learning to read music notes while simultaneously learning to read words, I began studying piano, taught by my mother, and harp with Jeanne Henderson, of Milwaukee, WI. By the time I entered second grade, I was already playing with my elementary school orchestra, which typically only allowed fifth and sixth graders. After entering middle school, I played with the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra for several years. At age 15, I played for my first wedding ceremony, and quickly established a solid clientele for weddings, banquets, receptions and other special occasions. During high school, I was twice selected as the principal harpist for the Wisconsin State High School Honors Orchestra. Additionally, I have frequently played at Irish Fest in Milwaukee, WI (as part of my harp instructor's ensemble), and performed as a soloist at the Rose Festival at Boerner Botanical Gardens (Hales Corners, WI), the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Showcase House, and the Mitchell Park Domes (Milwaukee, WI).

While attending Albion College (MI), I received a music scholarship to play harp and piano in the Albion College Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. James Ball. In 2003, I was one of three featured concerto contest winners with the Symphony, performing the Rondeau from Francois-Adrien Boieldieu's Concerto for Harp. Throughout college, I also played with the Tecumseh Community Orchestra (Tecumseh, MI) and for Albion College theater productions. Additionally, I established a seasonal performance schedule with Milwaukee County-area (WI) churches during the Christmas holidays.

After graduation from college, I relocated to Valparaiso, IN, to attend graduate school. While completing my Master of Arts in Liberal Studies - concentration in History, I have continued to perform for weddings, church services and special events in the Midwestern United States. Since my college graduation, I have been invited back to Albion College several times to play with the Symphony as well as joining the Tecumseh Community Orchestra for annual concerts. Today, my husband and I live in Valparaiso, IN. I work full time at Valparaiso University's Graduate Division while continuing to provide beautiful harp music for all occasions!

Raised in Jacksonville, Illinois, my musical training began at a young age with piano and voice lessons. I began harp study during high school at the age of 15. My first harp teacher was Alice Spero Keene, the professor of harp at the University of Illinois in Champaign. Subsequent teachers include Beatriz Martin-Ruiz of the University of Illinois and Suzann Davids of Valparaiso University.

After attending Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois for two years, I transferred to Valparaiso University in Indiana where I graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and in 2005 with a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (History Concentration). While at Bradley, I sang with the Chorale and Community Chorus, played harp for a performance of George Crumb's "Ancient Voices of Children" with the New Music Ensemble, and appeared as a soloist in the Prism concert series. I was fortunate to be able to tour Poland and the Czech Republic with the Bradley Chorale. At this time, I also began teaching beginning harp students and performed at events in Peoria and the surrounding areas.

At Valparaiso University, I was a member of the Chorale and Orchestra, touring with both groups throughout the United States. I gave vocal solo recitals in January of 2001 and April of 2003. As a harpist, I also accompanied the VU Chorale for their Christmas recording “Christ Child: Songs of the Nativity,” available from VUCA Media, and the Kantorei choir for Christmas Vespers services. I was a member of the pit orchestra for Valparaiso University's production of "The Ballad of Baby Doe" in 2001, and for the Memorial Opera House production of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" in 2005.

Currently, I am active as a freelance harpist working throughout the Midwest, performing at numerous weddings, fundraisers, funerals, corporate functions, and other events. I am also a founding member of Glissando Harps, a harp ensemble that provides music for all occasions.

Karl Henning (b. 1960) fell in love with the sound of the clarinet at age 10 and has been learning, practicing and creating music ever since…in pursuit of the Muse.

Formally, Henning holds a B.Mus. with double major in composition and clarinet performance from College of Wooster (Wooster, Ohio) where he studied with Jack Gallagher, Paul Schwartz and Nancy Garlisch; a M.A. in composition from University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA) where he studied with Judith Shatin, Walter Ross and Douglas Hargrave; and a Ph.D. in composition from the University of Buffalo (Buffalo, NY) where he studied with Charles Wuorinen and Louis Andriessen.

After his doctoral work, Henning lived for four years in and near St. Petersburg, Russia. There he studied the canals, bridges, cathedrals, white nights and starry winter skies of St. Petersburg. This was a period of informal arts study which he feels in many ways equal in importance to his years of formal training.

This year, 2000, is the fourth consecutive year in which his music has been played and sung on three continents (North America, Europe and Australia). For the past four years, Henning has lived, written and performed in the Boston area. His wife (Maria Bablyak) and mom-in-law (Irina Pisarenko) are both are formidably talented artists, designers and architects.
