| Micaela Schmitz (originally from the U.S.) specialises in early keyboard instruments, including harpsichord, fortepiano and clavichord. She earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts (on 18th century keyboard music) under Arthur Haas at the Eastman School of Music, in Rochester, New York. This was preceded by a first degree in Music at U.C. Berkeley, and a Masters in choral conducting. She spent two years studying with Jacques Ogg and Bart van Oort at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague on a Rotary scholarship. In 2002, she was awarded a bursary to study with Penelope Cave at the Dartington International Summer School. As a soloist she received acclaim for her performance of Bach's Goldberg variations, which features an entertaining pre-concert talk to help audience members appreciate the masterpiece. Other programmes include 'The English-Dutch Connection', 'For the Sun King', 'Dancing in the Isles', and 'The Fantastic and the Avant-Garde'. She has performed with Laurence Cummings, Paul Simmonds (duo keyboard repertoire); recorder player Cathryn Dew; gambist Jacqui Robertson-Wade, and baroque flutist Clare Beesley as the ensemble Terza Prattica. | NICO SCHULER, Asst. Professor & Coordinator of Music Theory at Southwest Texas State University and Co-Director of the International Center for New Music (ICNM), holds degrees from E.-M.-Arndt University in Greifswald, Germany (M.A., Musicology) and Michigan State University (Ph.D., Music Theory). Previous teaching posts include E.-M.-Arndt University Greifswald (1991-1995), Michigan State University (1997-1999), and Central Michigan University (1999-2001). He joined Southwest Texas State University in 2001.
Dr. Schuler was the recipient of several major scholarships, grants, and fellowships. He was an invited speaker at national and international conferences and workshops in Germany, Czech Republic, Sweden, England, The Netherlands, South Korea, and throughout the United States and Canada. His main research interests are interdisciplinary aspects of 19th and 20th century music, methods and methodology of music analysis, computer-aided instruction (CAI), computer applications in music research, as well as world music (especially selected aspects of West African and of Korean music).
Dr. Schuler is the editor of the series Kammermusik heute (Chamber Music Today), a member of the editorial board for the Greifswalder Beitäge zur Musikwissenschaft (Greifswald Monographs in Musicology), and the author and/or editor of 15 books and numerous articles. He is also a contributor to the new editions of the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians as well as of Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart (MGG).

| By the tender age of nine, Russell Scott, a London schoolboy, had developed a talent as a cabaret organist and made two LPs, which had totalled sales of over 100,000 copies. He had appeared on Thames TV's Telethon, helping to raise money for underprivileged children, entertained thousands in the UK, France, Germany and Eire, and guested on many radio and TV programmes, including a special guest spot on BBC TV's "Swap Shop". He studied music during his school years, passing examinations with The Royal Schools of Music and attending The Sylvia Young Theatre School in London. After his studies in 1986, and having raised thousands of pounds for charities throughout the UK from his solo performances, he developed into an all-round cabaret entertainer. He presented and performed many shows across the country including a major summer season on Blackpool's North Pier.
In 1995, having had professional voice training since the age of 11, Russell joined The London Philharmonic Choir where he has performed many of the large-scale choral works including Verdi's Requiem, Aida, Gershwin's Porgy & Bess and Beethoven's "Choral" Symphony. In a 1998 Chandos recording of music by Sir Thomas Armstrong, Russell was one of a small group of singers chosen to premiere several part-songs on disc. During 1996 - 1997, Russell sang regularly with the Exmoor Singers, performing works including Bach's St. John Passion and many chamber works from composers including Tippett, Rachmaninov, Tavener and Finzi. Exmoor Singers were semi-finalists in the 1996 Choir Of The Year competition.
In 1997, Russell performed as a soloist with the Avanti Chamber Orchestra as part of the Royal Festival Hall's Meltdown Festival. At the 1997 and 1998 Resolution Festival, London's biggest open platform for dance companies, Russell was one of the soloists performing works by Tavener, Duruflé and Tippett. In October 1998 Russell sang solo alongside Joan Rodgers in a performance of the Fauré Requiem with the London Philharmonic Choir conducted by Neville Creed. In November 1998 Russell had a small solo role in a concert performance of Peer Gynt with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir conducted by Kurt Masur.
Russell's professional chorus work includes singing regularly with the Geoffrey Mitchell Choir, one that records opera for major recording companies. He also sings with The English Concert and European Voices. In 1999, Russell played the role of Papageno in The Magic Flute, and sang the bass solo in a performance of Handel's Messiah with members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. In 2000, he went on tour performing Bach's St. Matthew Passion with The English Concert in Spain and Germany. He performs oratorio and opera regularly at home and abroad. Russell performed in the 2000 season of the BBC Proms including Handel's Messiah with The English Concert and Wagner's Parsifal with European Voices. Later in 2000, he did concert performances of Gershwin's Porgy & Bess with The Richard Hickox Singers in Cardiff and Swansea, and the solo in Mozart's Requiem with BES. In 2001 he has already sung a small roles in concert performances of Peter Grimes with the CBSO and has been touring with OAE around Europe performing Bach's St. Matthew Passion.

| Stuart Scott was born in Stretford near Manchester (UK) in 1949 and studied composition with Sir Lennox Berkeley. His wind trio "Conversations" was awarded a prize at the Stroud Festival International Composer's Competition in 1970 and was first performed by members of the Camden Quintet. Since then his music has been performed and broadcast in the UK, USA,Germany, Scandinavia and Japan. His output includes an opera, orchestral works, music for brass ensemble and string quartet as well as many solo pieces,duos and vocal works.
He is a member of the North West Composer's Association and author of "Halle Flutes","Skryabin and the Piano" and "The Chamber Music of John Ireland". His works are available through several different publishers and there have been three CD recordings of his works.

| Richard Scruggs has performed widely in America, Germany, Sweden, Poland and the Netherlands as soloist and chamber musician in concert venues and festivals such as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall (New York City), the Alte Oper (Frankfurt), Sophiensaal (Munich), the Internationale-Ferienkurse für Neue Musik (Darmstadt), and the Festival der Seltenen Besetzungen (Ludwigsburg). Several gifted composers have dedicated saxophone works to Scruggs, including Werner Wolf Glaser, Cristian Marina, Ryan Garber, Mark Alan Taggart, Alan Theisen, and Michael Sidney Timpson. He was for several years a student of the eminent saxophone soloist and pedagogue Sigurd Raschèr and in 1992 earned the Doctor of Music Degree from Florida State University. From 1993-2001 he was the saxophone instructor of the Tübinger Musikschule in Germany. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Music at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Scruggs plays a parabolic saxophone built in 1927 according to the original acoustical design of the inventor, Adolphe Sax.

| Described by critics as a "truly inspiring and brilliant pianist...spellbinding in sensitivity and mastery of technique," Dr. Nadia Shpachenko is an active soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. She has performed extensively in solo recitals and with orchestras in North America and Europe in venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Château de Modave in Belgium, Phillips Collection in Washington, DC, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Most recently she toured Mexico with Orquesta de Baja California, and performed with the Kharkov Philharmonic Orchestra in Ukraine and the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra in California.
In addition to bringing out new facets of the traditional repertoire, Dr. Shpachenko enjoys applying her deep interpretation to new repertoire by performing and premiering music by contemporary composers. Her recent notable premieres include Michael Garson’s Homage to Ligeti at Carnegie Hall, a Piano Quartet by Ukrainian composer Yuri Ishchenko at the Ukrainian Institute of America, and the West Coast premiere of Elliott Carter’s Dialogues for Piano and Chamber Orchestra with the Nimbus Ensemble in Los Angeles. Dr. Shpachenko is also touring a series of lecture-recitals exploring the relations between modern art and modern music, including one on Unorthodox Use of Piano by 20th Century American Composers and one commissioned by the Phillips Collection in Washington, DC to accompany its Modigliani exhibit.
Born in Ukraine, Dr. Shpachenko completed her Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees at the University of Southern California, where she was awarded the title of Outstanding Graduate. Her principal teachers have included such distinguished musicians as John Perry in Los Angeles, Victor Rosenbaum in Boston, and Victor Derevianko in Israel. She has won top prizes in numerous competitions, including the California International Young Artists Piano Competition, Wideman International Piano Competition, Grace Welsh International Prize for Piano, Corpus Christi International Piano Competition, National Federation of Music Clubs Young Artist Competition, MTNA Collegiate Piano Competition, and the USC Piano Concerto Competition. Dr. Shpachenko has performed at the International Holland Music Sessions, Aspen, Cliburn, Manchester, Orford, Sarasota, Music Academy of the West, Tel-Hai, and Saluzzo International Music Festivals. Her performances have been featured on many radio and television stations in California, Massachusetts, New York, Ukraine, the UK, and Italy and released on CDs in Europe and the U.S.
In 2006, Dr. Shpachenko joined the faculty of the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona as an Assistant Professor of Music. She is also Professor of Piano at the Shepherd University School of Music. | Jessica Sibelman is a composer and clarinetist who has performed and has had her works performed throughout the east coast at venues including New York's Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center's Avery Fischer and Alice Tully Halls, CAMI Hall, Symphony Space, Philadelphia's Kimmel Center, and The Boston Symphony Orchestra Cafe.
In 2004, Jessica began her clarinet performance training with Andrew Lamy, Miriam Lockhart and David Sapadin. Jessica began her composition studies under Daniel Bar-Hava at the Manhattan School of Music Precollege, where she had her orchestral and chamber works frequently featured in performances. She has had both her orchestral works and chamber music performed by the Kinhaven Music School Symphony in 2003 and 2004.
Jessica continued her education at the New England Conservatory of Music with a minor in composition under Malcolm Peyton and studied clarinet with Ricardo Morales and Craig Nordstrom. In Boston, Jessica has had her music performed at venues including The New England Conservatory of Music’s Jordan Hall and Williams Hall, as well as the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Café. Jessica was accepted into the prestigious New York Youth Symphony’s Making Score, where she studied under Derek Bermel. After the NYYS Making Score Final Concert at CAMI Hall, Jessica was mentioned in The Symphony Magazine (October, 2004) as having given “a star-turn performance” of her Clarinet Quintet. Jessica has had a reading of her music with the American Composers' Orchestra in May 2008. Her most recent performances include her Octet at Symphony Space in 2008, Debut Concert at The Kaufman Center’s Merkin Concert Hall in June 2009, and featured performance at Galapagos Art Space in August 2009.
Jessica is currently a student at The Juilliard School of Music, studying conducting under Maestro Vincent La Selva, and composition with Dr. Kendell Briggs.

| I started playing brass instruments at the age of 3 and have been playing in bands and orchestras of all types since i was 7. I have excellent musician skills due to being in contact with music all my life through the salvation army.
I am currently in my 3rd year at Trinity college of music studying for a degree in Music Performance with study options including conducting, instrumental conducting, communication skills, arts in music, instrument repair, music therepy and music technology.
I have played with many ensembles and orchestras. At current I am the Principal Bass Trombone of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and Principal Bass Trombone of the North London Philharmonic and Ernest Reed Symphony Orchestra. I also play in a Brass Quintet that does workshops and recitals throughout London and has been to Seattle.
I am also a teacher in the summer camps in the states and have been so for the last 3 years. I would like to look for work in teaching but mostly playing at the moment.

| Debra trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow and gained a BA in Musical Performance and a diploma in Operatic Studies. She then joined the Ambrosian Opera Chorus in London, where she recorded the great works with leading conductors and orchestras. This included many appearances on Friday Night is Music Night on Radio Two with the Ambrosian Singers, as well as the Nigel Brooks Singers and the John McCarthy singers.
Interesting work in the UK has included a series of concerts with Patrick Moore, the astronomer, where Debra appeared as guest artist and sang many of Mr. Moore’s own compositions. Extensive work abroad has included Operas and Concerts in Dortmund, Zurich, Munich, Berlin, Luxembourg, Venice, Japan and Jerusalem. As a renowned oratorio specialist her repertoire includes The Creation (Haydn), The Messiah (Handel), Nelson Mass (Haydn), Petite Messe Solenelle (Rossini), Carmina Burana (Orff) and the Requiems of Faure, Brahms and Mozart. Her operatic roles include Susanna (Marriage of Figaro), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Queen of the Night (Magic Flute), Norina (Don Pasquale), Olympia (Tales of Hoffman), Despina (Cosi fan tutte) and Micaela (Carmen).
With Coro Cervantes Debra has performed in Spain, Mexico and Russia. She was featured soloist on Coro Cervantes’ first CD O Crux, which was voted Gramophone’s Critic’s Choice of the Year. As a session singer, Debra has recorded vocals for film soundtracks, CD library music, launch music for car companies and radio jingles. She was featured soloist during the opening and closing ceremonies for the Commonwealth Games in Manchester with music especially commissioned for the occasion and also performed the vocals for the soundtrack for the Beijing Olympic Torch Ceremony in London.
