Philip Cox studied at Birmingham Conservatoire from 1989 to 1993. He was the recipient of the Alfred Corfield Trumpet Prize, Micklam Prize and a Conservatoire Bursary. Whilst still a student Philip played in the U.K premier of the stage show 'Scrooge'and freelanced with all of the Midlands Professional Orchestras.
Following graduation Philip was recruited to join the National Chamber Orchestra of South Africa, where he remained for 4 years, 2 and a half as Principal. During these four years he performed on Miss South Africa twice, for Chris de Bergh, The Wallace Collection, Pavorotti and Miss World.
Following a shorter spell performing in Portugal, Philip returned to the U.K taking up performing positions with the New Mozart Orchestra and the Oxford Philomusica, aswell as freelancing in and around the Capital. Along with maintaining an orchestral career Philip Cox also administers a Wedding Music business, offering the full range of classica instrumentalists and ensembles. 'Music for a While' caters for a little under 300 weddings per year. As a Trumpeter Philip personally performs at around 70 of these.
Philip Cox has continually demonstrated a committment to education and is on the staff of St. Albans School, The Haberdashers' Aske's School and Westbrook Hay School.
